The Scuba Saga Continues...

Another weekend in the books! Another extremely productive weekend I might add! Things went really god for us at rehearsal despite numerous weather challenges throughout the weekend. We had to practice on the parking lot again because “scuba filed” was just plain underwater!

Now for a brief review…

Boxers are ok, but I definitely prefer boxer briefs. You get more support and you don’t have to worry about them riding up. Tightey Whities are out of the question, they are just plain uncomfortable!

Now for a brief review of camp…

Well it started out WET. Extremely WET! So we stayed inside and did the music thing for a while. The focus was there and we were playing pretty well. We had a chance to go over some of the music before we tried to put it to the drill, which is always a big plus in my book. The clouds finally broke enough for us to go outside and start learning the new drill to “Round Midnight” (or “Round October” as the contra’s call it, we figure this chart is so hard that we may get it by October…more on this later!)

After that we broke for dinner. After dinner we started reviewing last weeks drill to get it under our feet and our fingers. We went pretty well past dark in our little parking lot and got quite a bit accomplished. I was very happy with the amount of work that we got done, though we could always use improvement. Hopefully in the break that we have this weekend people will get more acquainted with the music and be able to play more parts correctly while on the move. I know, I know, it’s only May why are my expectations so high? If you want the answer to that question, you’ll have to see me in private. That is not something I want to lay out here for the whole world to read! Still we managed to get a lot done Saturday despite all of the challenges.

The Waterfront was, well the Waterfront! This is our local hang out after rehearsal where we go to enjoy a few tasty adult beverages. Had some good times, played some pool, closed the place…AGAIN! Scott wins the award for coolest mofo of the evening when he bought all remaining Brigs in the bar a round on him.

Sunday…another warm up, some more rain, and a decent playing day for us. We reviewed the rest of last week’s material, and got some good reps of the opener in before the weather gods decided to open the sky for business. After that we went inside for a quick sectional. I had a blast at that sectional and managed to get a lot done on Round October. When we first got this chart we knew it was going to take a while to play it really well. These contra’s are amazing and in the short time we had we managed to sound pretty good on some very difficult material. After that we played a run through of the show and then it was time to head home.

So after practice there is this mysterious glowing orb in the sky that we haven’t seen in a while! It’s the sun…the sun? Somebody send the sun a memo that in 2 weeks we could use some at practice. In fact for the next 2 weeks it would be nice to dry up “scuba field” and make it marchable…(is that a word?)
Enough for now kids…time to get back to real life!
