The 5 D's

Desire. Determination. Dedication. Devotion. Discipline.

The five D’s! Something to live life by… Following them is hard. Following them everyday is even harder. If there is something that you want badly enough in life, these 5 things will help you get there.

Desire.
There has to be something that you want in life. It can be big or it can be small. Everything starts with desire. We all have dreams and aspirations. This is where your desire comes from.

Determination.
This is you commitment level towards achieving your desires. You will never get what you desire unless you are determined enough to get it. This is the first decision you have to make in order to achieve what you desire.

Dedication.
You can have all the desires in the world and be the most determined person out there, and still not achieve what it is you want. This is a major step toward achieving your desires. It goes beyond determination. There is an expression out there and I will come back to it again. “Faith without works is dead.” Dedication is the work.

Devotion.
This is where the faith part comes in. This goes beyond work. This is that little piece of yourself that you have to put in to everything in order to achieve what you want. This is the “heart and soul” so to speak. You can dedicate all the time and energy into something, but if you aren’t completely sold on what it is you desire on a whole other level, you will most likely not ever achieve the satisfaction you are looking for even if you do achieve your goal. Devoting yourself towards achieving what it is you want will make everything all the more worthwhile.

Discipline.
This is the hardest of the 5 D’s. Discipline is the fine art of carefully following a plan through to completion. It is often very meticulous and demanding. Too many people are looking for a shortcut or a quick remedy to everything they want in life. The simple fact is to get what you really want in life you are going to have to really want it and really work at it. Many of us have the discipline until we lose faith. When that happens instead of giving up, have the discipline to push through the toughest of times.

All five of these things go hand in hand. You can have one without the others, or two out of the five, or three out of the five and still be very successful. If you pursue all five of these you can achieve unbelievable things. You can see remarkable consistency and quality in what you do at work, and what you do in your spare time. It’s a different level of thinking and it works.
That’s all for now…this should take a while to digest!
